A password manager acts as a secure credential organiser

Instead of relying on memory for every login, a password manager stores account credentials and helps you retrieve them when needed. This makes it practical to use a different random password for every service.

Why uniqueness is the biggest advantage

The most important benefit is often not simply convenience. Unique passwords prevent one breach from automatically unlocking unrelated accounts. A manager removes much of the friction that normally causes people to reuse passwords.

Generation and storage work together

A strong generator can create credentials that humans would struggle to invent and remember. The manager then stores them, so there is no pressure to make every password memorable.

Protect the manager itself

Use a strong master secret if the product requires one, enable available multi-factor authentication and understand recovery options. Losing access to your password manager can be disruptive, so plan before an emergency happens.

Be careful with phishing

A password manager can sometimes provide useful clues by recognising the correct website. That does not replace attention: always review unexpected login pages and unusual requests.
